This bird’s-eye view print of Urbana, Illinois was drawn by Albert Ruger and published by Chicago Lithographing Co. in 1869. In 1833, when Champaign County was formed, the quiet community of Urbana became its seat of government.

The University of Illinois at Urbana was established in 1867 as Illinois Industrial University. The school’s early roots took advantage of the regions agricultural interests, instilling industrial education and liberal arts.

The map includes labeled streets, buildings and railroad route. There are inset illustrations of Illinois State Industrial University and the Court House.
