Description

Lloyd's official map of the state of Kentucky compiled from actual surveys and official documents, showing every railroad and railroad station with the distances between each station.

James T. Lloyd's map labels counties and county seats, cities, towns, villages, post offices, wagon and post roads, canals, forts, fortifications, coal and iron mines, salt works, caves, mills, and the railroad network.

Advertisements for other Lloyd Maps are printed on this map including an authorization from the Navy Department in Washington DC dated Sept. 17, 1863 for permission to officially use the Lloyd's Map of Mississippi amongst members of the Mississippi Squadron.

A curious statement included on the map reads: "The public are cautioned against another "Lloyd" by whose name he hopes to deceive the public with spurious "Lloyd's Maps". This man's maps are engraved coarsly on wood and very erroneous. He follows us with an "imitation of every map we issue". A Map of the Southern States, issued by him, has Farmington in the place of Corinth, MS and the latter place omitted from his map altogether."
