Historic Map - Minneapolis & Saint Anthony, MN - 1867
Description
View of Minneapolis and Saint Anthony, Hennepin County, M.N., 1867 / drawn & published by A. Ruger.
This panoramic print of Minneapolis and Saint Anthony, Minnesota was drawn by Albert Ruger and published by Chicago Lithographing Co. in 1867. Minneapolis and its original twin city Saint Anthony lie across the Mississippi River from one another.
Saint Anthony was established in the 1840's on the east banks as the first saw mill was built there. A high waterfall at that location made an excellent power source. Minneapolis emerged in the 1850's on the west side of the river and was incorporated as a city in 1867.
Railroad service between Minneapolis and Chicago was also added in that year. Saint Anthony merged with Minneapolis five years after this map’s publishing.
The map includes labeled streets, buildings, bridges and railroad routes.
