This panoramic print of Stillwater, Minnesota was drawn by Albert Ruger and published by Merchants Lith. Co. in 1870. Stillwater was established in the 1840's along the St. Croix River. The early community prospered with the harvesting of timber and agricultural interests. River access made Stillwater a transportation hub for exportation of cut or processed lumber and harvested grain.

Minnesota’s first territorial prison was built at Stillwater in 1853.

The illustration includes labeled streets, buildings and railroad route. Riverboat and barge activity is portrayed in the foreground. There are inset illustrations of the following:

  • Schulenberg’s Mill and Addition.
