Description

Altamont, N.Y. / drawn & published by L.R. Burleigh.

Reproduction bird's-eye view map of Altamont, New York drawn and published by Lucien R. Burleigh in 1889. Altamont, now located within the town of Guilderland, was a summer get-a-way for many New Englanders in 1889. The Albany and Susquehanna Railroad line brought visitors to enjoy the village's hotels and lakeside boarding houses. Altamont lies just below the Helderberg Mountains. The splendid mountain view and visitor's services available helped Altamont prosper. This map captures the village as it appeared one year before it would be incorporated as a town.

The panoramic map from 1889 includes clearly labeled street names showing railroad traffic.
