Reproduction bird's-eye view map of Gloversville, New York, published by H. H. Bailey & Co. in 1875. Gloversville is a city in Fulton County on the banks of the Cayadutta Creek. Incorporated as a village in 1853, Gloversville would reach city status in 1890. Earlier, settlers from New England brought their tanning skills here and began producing fine leather. Several dozen glove factories and many large tanneries were established in Gloversville, as well as their supporting industries. In 1870, the Fonda, Johnstown & Gloversville Railway arrived, expanding opportunities and making the area a world leader in glove production.
