Description

Aero-view of Lindenhurst, Long Island, 1926, New York. Drawn by R. Cinquin.

Reproduction aero-view map of Lindenhurst, New York, drawn by Rene Cinquin and published by Metropolitan Aero-View Co. in 1926. Lindenhurst is a village on the south shore of Long Island in Suffolk County. Originally called Breslau by early German settlers, the town's name was changed in 1891 to Lindenhurst. The town booster from 1926 reads:

"Lindenhurst, midway between Amityville and Babylon, is a thriving village progressing along individual lines. It contains numerous small manufactories that produce embroideries, paper novelties, fireproof goods, a button factory employing about 150 people, a factory manufacturing brass novelties, employing about 200 people, six garages, a nursery, two moving picture houses, a dance hall, and a bank.

There is a handsome brick school of eighteen class-rooms as well as a parochial. The village proper is only ten minutes from the Great South Bay and a canal has been dredged to the Mountauk Highway. There is plenty of fishing.

The village supports a Lutheran and Roman Catholic Church, a Board of Trade, an auto-equipped fire department, and has water, gas and electric light. The fraternal organizations are: Knights of Pythias, Odd Fellows, Exempt Volunteer Firemen's Association, Knights of Columbus, Labor Society, World War Veterans, Daughters of Rebekah, and many others."

The map from the 1926 has inset illustrations of Heer Park Waterfronts, Heer Park, Lindenhurst, L. I., Heer Brothers, Managers, Owners & Developers. Francis C. Heer and Lawrence F. Heer. Directly on Merrick Road and Great South Bay. Telephone: Lindenhurst 152.
