Description

Mount Morris, N.Y.

Reproduction bird's-eye view map of Mount Morris, New York, drawn and published by Burleigh Litho. Co. in 1893. Mount Morris is a town in Livingston County that was named after American Revolutionary financier Robert Morris. It is located near New York's Letchworth State Park. The park features a scenic gorge and waterfalls along the Genesee River. The town serves as a gateway to the park and center for park visitors. The Genesee Valley Canal connecting Mount Morris with Rochester was completed in 1840, serving as an important trade route for several communities of the Genesee Valley utilizing the Erie Canal. This canal was later sold to the railroads, drained and used as a railway route. This map published in the 1890s shows the village after these changes had taken place.

This panoramic map from 1893 shows railroad routes, buildings and clearly labeled street names.
