Description

Map showing the route and connections of the Wheeling and Cincinnati Mineral Railway.

In the years following the American Civil War, Cincinnati prospered greatly with the production of iron. It also was an important meatpacking, woodworking and millinery city.

The Little Miami Railroad began serving Cincinnati in 1836 and by the late 1800's, more than 15 railroads linked Cincinnati to other parts of the country.

The Wheeling & Cincinnati Mineral Railway was established in 1882. The line became the Cincinnati, Wheeling & New York Railroad in 1883. It later served as part of the Eastern Ohio Railroad.

Cincinnati was home to William Howard Taft.

This map, designed by Thomas R. Sharp, consulting engineer, was published in 1882 by G.W. & C.B. Colton & Co. It displays cities, towns, counties, waterways, and the railroad network with emphasis on the main line.
