This panoramic print of Dawson, Pennsylvania was drawn and published by Thaddeus Mortimer Fowler in 1902. The borough of Dawson located along the Youghiogheny River prospered greatly with the discovery of coal and coke in the late 1800's. The town served as a transportation hub for the valuable fuel source and many fortunes were made here, resulting in some pretty elaborate mansions built throughout. Dickerson Run lies just across the bridge from Dawson.

The map from 1902 includes Dawson’s streets, buildings, Yough Bridge and railroad routes. It features inset illustrations of the following:

California was situated amid Pennsylvania’s valuable coal fields. The Vesta coal mine No. 4 opened in California in 1893 producing vast amounts of soft coal. Natural gas was also discovered in the area in the 1870's.
