Cantino Planisphere

The Cantino Planishpere is the oldest known map showing Portugal's geographic discoveries in the eastern and western hemispheres. The map is notable for being the first map to feature the eastern Amercian coast.

The map is named after Alberto Cantino, an operative for the Duke of Ferrara, for successfully stealing the map from Portugal and taking it to Italy.

The map is also notable for being one of the first maps to feature detailed depictions of the African coast of the Atlantic and Indian oceans.
