This reproduction aero-view map of North Fork and Clark, West Virginia was drawn and published by Thaddeus Mortimer Fowler in 1911. The Cumberland Mountains of West Virginia have been found to contain valuable minerals such as silver, iron, lead and gypsum. The discovery of bituminous coal in the late 1800's prompted several communities to emerge in the region and North Fork and nearby Clark were two of them. The Keystone Coal & Coke Company operated mines throughout the region beginning in the 1890's. North Fork was established along the north fork of Elkhorn Creek to serve and house the mining community. It was incorporated in 1901 and the nearby town of Clark was added to its boundaries in 1948.

The image from 1911 includes streets, buildings, mining operations and railroad lines.
