This bird’s-eye view print of Peabody, Massachusetts was drawn and published by O. H. Bailey & J. C. Hazen in 1877. Peabody was part of Danvers until the mid-1800's when it established itself as a separate town. It was a farming community in its early years, producing general vegetables.

In the 1870's, a number of leather-makers maintained tanneries at Peabody. Leather was abundantly manufactured here and transported to shoe manufactories located in Beverly.

Peabody was an important railroad junction of the Eastern Railroad and the Salem & Lowell lines.

The illustration includes labeled streets, buildings and railroad routes.
