Aberdeen, South Dakota in 1883, only two years after it was first settled.
Inset illustrations appear around the edges of the map that include elevated
drawings of:

- Fair Grounds and Race Course.
- Public School.
- U. S. Land Office.
- West Side of Main Street - from Depot.
- Nichol House.
Also depicted in one inset is a pastoral scene, labeled: In
1880 a Section Corner (Corner of 1st St. and 1st Ave.), illustrating the
contrast between development and pre-development. Title reads
