Raised Relief Map of Mars
The landscape of the planet mars is represented here in stunning 3-dimensional
vacuum formed raised relief.
Simply run your fingers across the surface of this relief map to feel the great
valleys and mountains of the red planet Mars.
Indicated on this map are the landing sites of Mars exploration missions as well as facts about the planet.
The map features both the north and south pole shown in a Polar Stereographic Projection as well as a Mercator Projection of Mars from -57° to +57°.
Topographic data for this
map was obtained from the Mars Orbiting Laser Altimeter (MOLA) instrument aboard
the Mars Global Surveyor (MGS). Data was selected so that there were eight
points per degree. The color information for the beautifully detailed shading
featured in this map was obtained by the Viking program. The color base map was
printed using 32 pixels per degree, then projected into the appropriate views.
