Description

View of Salida, Chaffee County, C.O., 1882 / drawn & published by J. J. Stoner.

This panoramic print of Salida, Colorado was drawn by J. J. Stoner and published by Beck & Pauli, Lithographers Co. in 1882. Salida was established along the Arkansas River in late 1870's as a rail line service center and junction for the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad. It also served as the county seat when the county was formed in 1879.

The railroad was an important link from the silver mines of the region connecting up and down the Arkansas River Valley.

The map published in 1882 includes labeled streets, buildings and railroad route. The Denver & Rio Grande Roundhouse and Shops are portrayed in the foreground. Mt. Ouray is noted in the distance.
