Reproduction historic map of Pensacola, Florida published in 1885 by Henry Wellge. First sighted by the famous Spanish explorer, Juan Ponce de Leon in 1513, Don Diego Miruelo became the first European explorer to sail into Pensacola Bay in 1516. The city has earned its nickname "City of Five Flags" by having been under the control of Spanish, French, British, the Confederacy and the United States. The area was given the name "Panzacola" by King Ferdinand VI of Spain in 1757.

Detailed illustrations of the New Continental Hotel and the Merchants' Hotel are inset in the lower margin, along with a detailed illustration of the Navy Yards.
