This perspective print of Chicago’s Union Stock Yards and Packing Houses was drawn and published by Charles Rascher in 1890. The Chicago stock yards were created on swampland southwest of the city in the 1860's to consolidate the scattered independent yards that were strewn about the growing city.

These valuable “yards” were processing nine million animals per year by the 1890's. The various companies of the important stock yards employed thousands of workers during this era
