This panoramic print of Lincoln, Illinois was drawn by Albert Ruger and published by Merchant’s Lithographing Co. in 1869. Lincoln, located in the center of Illinois, was established in 1853 as an agricultural stop along the newly built Illinois Central Railroad.
Lincoln was named after lawyer and town councilman Abraham Lincoln, who at the time was a promoter and lawyer for the railroad company. Lincoln College was founded in 1865 in Lincoln as a four-year liberal arts institution.
The map includes labeled streets, buildings and railroad route. It features inset illustrations of Lincoln College and the Court House.
