Description

View of Moline, Rock Island County, I.L., 1873 / engraved & published by A. Hageboeck.

This panoramic print of Moline, Illinois was drawn and published by August Hageboeck in 1873. The industrious town of Moline began as soon as water power was generated at that location along the Mississippi River.

This new power source afforded several manufacturing interests to settle here including John Deere & Company. In the 1840's Mr. Deere relocated his steel plow works from Grand Detour to Moline. The company soon branched into other agricultural implement manufactures to become a leading employer of the area.

A fine public library building was erected in Moline in 1873.

The image, as seen from Rock Island, includes bridge and buildings.

This bird's-eye view map from 1873 shows buildings and clearly labeled street names.
