View of Princeton, Bureau County, I.L., 1870 / drawn & published by Ruger & Stoner.

This bird’s-eye view print of Princeton, Illinois was drawn by Ruger & Stoner and published by Chicago Lith. Co. in 1870. Princeton was referred to as “City of Elms” in the 1870's as the town’s streets were lined with the trees.

The city, whose name was drawn out of a hat, was named county seat to the newly formed Bureau County.

Princeton’s high school was founded in 1867 as a boarding school teaching history, mathematics and science. The building and its later addition were both destroyed by fire in 1924.

The map looking northeast includes labeled streets, buildings and railroad route. It features inset illustrations of the High School and Court House.
