This panoramic print of Rockford, Illinois was drawn by J. J. Stoner and published by Beck & Pauli Lith. Co. in 1880. Rockford, county seat of Winnebago County, was established in the 1830's at a location along Rock River that afforded good river crossing.
The Rockford Female Seminary, which later became Rockford College, was founded here in 1847. Author, women’s rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Jane Addams was nearing her graduation from the seminary when this map was published.
Rockford was a leading furniture manufacturing town in 1880.
