This bird’s-eye view print of Rising Sun, Maryland was drawn by T. M. Fowler and published by Fowler & Kelly in 1907. Rising Sun is located near the Pennsylvania border in Maryland’s farming region.

Rising Sun was an important stop for those in route from Baltimore to Philadelphia in the early days. It was involved in a border dispute between Pennsylvania and Maryland that was finally solved with the famous survey of Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon, which determined Rising Sun belonged to Maryland.

Rising Sun was incorporated in 1860. Slate sidewalks were installed at that time as well as coal-oil streetlamps. The Baltimore Central Railroad began serving the community in 1866.

The map includes labeled streets, buildings and railroad route.
