Description

Sectional Map of the State of North Dakota published by authority of the commissioners of railroads under the direction of the governor; drawn and compiled from official maps of the General Land Office and other authentic sources.

The Dakota Territory was sparsely populated before the arrival of the railroads.

Dakota Territory was officially split into North Dakota and South Dakota in 1889 with the Enabling Act of 1889. This allowed for ratification of state constitutions, newly elected officers and statehood.

This township and county map shows relief using hachures, drainage, cities and towns, military and Indian reservations. Operating and proposed railroads are indicated with names printed along the lines.
