The beachfront communities of Ocean Grove and Asbury Park were established in the late 1800's. Ocean Park in 1869, followed closely by Asbury Park. Methodist ministers founded Ocean Grove as a Christian camp community enticing New Yorkers and Pennsylvanians to enjoy the seashore by way of the New York and Long Branch Railroad.
