Description

Luzerne, N.Y. and Hadley. Drawn & published by L. R. Burleigh.

Reproduction bird's-eye view map of Luzerne and Hadley, New York, published by Lucien Burleigh in 1888. Luzerne and its sister city Hadley are located in Warren County at the foothills of the Adirondacks. The village, now referred to as Lake Luzerne, was and is still considered the "Gateway to the Adirondacks". The lake is the result of a confluence of waters between the Hudson River and Lake George. Lake Luzerne, with its quiet waters and surrounding hills and valleys, provides spectacular views and offers excellent outdoor activities. The area has been settled since the late 1700s when it was a lumber community, but by 1888, the farming of corn, oats, potatoes and rye was conducted.

This map from 1888 shows buildings, clearly labeled street names and railway route.
