Description

Perry, N.Y., Wyoming Co., 1892 / Burleigh Litho. Co., Troy, N.Y.

This reproduction bird's-eye view map of Perry, New York was published by the Burleigh Litho. Co. in 1892. Perry is a town in Wyoming County, New York, situated at the northeast end of Silver Lake. The town was named for Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, a great commander during the War of 1812 who was called the "Hero of Lake Erie" or "Hero of Put-in Bay". Future President Chester A. Arthur grew up in Perry during the mid-1800's. 1890 saw the founding of the Citizens Chemical Company in Perry, as well as the Active Hose Company, which later became the I. S. Robinson Hose Co. This detailed map shows Perry one year after its first major fire which engulfed several buildings along Main Street and cost $100,000.00 in property damage.

This panoramic map from 1892 shows buildings, clearly labeled streets, railroad route and Silver Lake in the distance.
