This reproduction antique map of Warwick, New York was drawn and published by Lucien R. Burleigh in 1887. Warwick, in Orange County, was the site of a Continental army encampment during the American Revolutionary War and would later achieve status as an important farming community. The town was named after original patentee Benjamin Ashe's plantation, "Warwick", a farm so vast that many associated the name with the area and so the village was incorporated in 1867 as Warwick.
The Longhouse Creek was dammed and mills began to be built along it and the Doublekill River. The area also maintained several dairy, fruit and vegetable farms. Nearby Mount Adam and Mount Eve were quarried heavily during the 1800's for their iron ore. Warwick is passed through by the colonial trade route "The King's Highway" as it traveled from Pennsylvania and New Jersey to the Hudson River and New England. In the mid-1800's, the Warwick Valley Railroad and the Lehigh and Hudson River Railway used this same path and established railroad stations in Warwick. The railways carried freight as well as passengers to and from town.
