This reproduction panoramic view of Carbondale, Pennsylvania was drawn by Thaddeus Mortimer Fowler and published by T. M. Fowler & James B. Moyer, A. E. Downs, lith. in 1897. Carbondale, situated along the Lackawanna River was a major mining and railroad community in the 1800's. The first commercially successful railroad, Delaware, Lackawanna & Hudson Railroad, maintained an important terminal here. The Delaware and Hudson Canal Company, based in nearby Scranton, owned and operated an underground anthracite coal mine and breaker at Carbondale.

The map shows Carbondale���s labeled streets, buildings, bridges and railroad lines.
