Description

View of Morrisville, Bucks County, P.A., 1893 / drawn & published by T. M. Fowler.

This aero-view print of Morrisville, Pennsylvania was drawn and published by Thaddeus Mortimer Fowler in 1893. Morrisville sits along the Delaware River opposite Trenton, New Jersey. The town began as a ferry landing in the late 1700's with interests in the lumber industry. The town was incorporated in 1804 and named after financier and Declaration of Independence signer Robert Morris.

The first bridge across the Delaware was made of wood and completed in 1806 to much fanfare. The double-rail iron railroad bridge was built in the 1870's. The railroad addition spurred manufacturing growth in the area of Morrisville. In 1873, a rubber spring and tubing company was established on Clymer St. The Goodyear Vulcanite Company was a large employer of the area as well as the Robinson Art Tile Companys works which began operations in 1890.

The map from 1893 shows the bridges across the Delaware River toward Trenton, New Jersey. It includes buildings, labeled streets and railroad routes.
