View of Chattanooga, Hamilton County, T.N., 1887.

This panoramic print of Chattanooga, Tennessee, as seen from Bragg Hill, Missionary Ridge, was drawn and published around 1887. Chattanooga grew from a small riverboat landing along the banks of the Tennessee River, that once was used as an internment camp for Indians awaiting transport along the Trail of Tears.

Chattanooga prospered with many manufacturing interests and transportation; first by riverboat and then using railroads. In 1867, Chattanooga was nearly lost to a major flood. In 1878, Chattanooga experienced a yellow fever epidemic which left many dead.

In 1887, work began on a new four hundred room inn at Lookout Mountain. The inn was a very popular social event venue in the 1890's.

The map includes streets, railroad lines and vicinity.
