Description

Bird's eye view Superior, Wisconsin "the New Steel Center."

This illustrated reproduction of a bird's eye view map of Superior, Wisconsin was published by Bradley-Brink Co. in 1913. The "New Steel Center" shows St. Louis and Superior Bays along with the ports and the metropolitan areas. Superior, county seat for Douglas County, was settled in the mid-1800's with the completion of its famous ship canal and locks. The locks permitted larger ships access to Superior's harbor. With the addition of the Northern Pacific Railway, Superior grew to be a major shipping and railway community transporting lumber and iron ore, along with its newest product, steel.

The map from 1913 features railway routes and shipping traffic.
