This panoramic print of Groton, Massachusetts was drawn and published by Lucien R. Burleigh in 1886. Groton was settled in the mid-1600's. Its early days were hampered by battles of the Indian Wars.
Groton later emerged as an important agricultural and industrial town. Its mills actively produced fine woolen and cotton goods. Groton prospered as a trading center, with an emphasis on education. Lawrence Academy was established at Groton in 1793, and another popular boarding school, Groton School was built in 1884.
