This bird’s-eye view print of Lagoon Heights, Cottage City, Massachusetts was drawn and published by O. H. Bailey around 1880. The newly established Lagoon Heights neighborhood of Cottage City began to be advertised in the 1800's as the most charming spot on this island of the sea.

Cottage City was settled in the mid-1600's on the banks of Nantucket Sound on the island of Martha’s Vineyard. Cottage City’s name was changed to Oak Bluffs in 1907.

In the late 1800's, Martha’s Vineyard was a popular New England get-a-way with many expensive summer homes and ornate hotels. Coney Island’s Flying Horses Carousel was moved to Cottage City in 1884, where it still operates today.

The illustration, advertising property, shows platted property owned by the Lagoon Heights Land Company, labeled roads, waterways and vicinity. There are border illustrations of the following:
