This bird’s-eye view print of Newton, Massachusetts, comprising Wards 1 and 7 and vicinity, was drawn and published by O. H. Bailey & Co. in 1878. Newton lies just southwest of Boston. The town, along the Charles River, was first settled in the 1630's.

In the 1800's, Newton began developing into a popular suburb of Boston. The community was easily accessed by the Boston & Albany Railroad.

The illustration includes labeled streets, buildings and railroad route.
