This bird’s-eye view print of Woburn, Massachusetts was drawn and published by Lucien R. Burleigh in 1883. Woburn was settled in the 1640's northwest of Boston.

Woburn was an early farming community near Horn Pond, supplying the Boston area’s agricultural needs. In 1803 the Middlesex Canal was completed through Woburn. The canal, between Boston and Lowell, enabled farmers of the region to transport produce more easily.

The addition of the Boston & Lowell Railroad, in the 1830's, further increased the town’s prosperity, as it was built right through it.

Woburn received telegraph service in 1867 and gained telephone service in 1882.

The illustration includes labeled roads, buildings and railroad route.
