View of Rochester, Strafford County, N.H., 1877 / drawn & published by J. J. Stoner.

This hand-colored bird’s-eye view print of Rochester, New Hampshire was drawn and published by J. J. Stoner, C. H. Vogt & Co. Lith. in 1877. Rochester was settled in the mid-1700's northwest of Portsmouth. Timber harvesting was aggressively done in the early years.

In the 1800's, several mills and manufactories began operations at this point along the Salmon Falls and Cochecho rivers. Rochester was a major New England railroad hub in the late 1800's.

The colorful map, drawn from a position east of town, includes labeled roads, buildings, bridges, waterways and railroad routes.
