Map of the State of Texas showing the line and lands of the Texas and Pacific Railway reserved and donated by the State of Texas, 1873.

Texas became the 26th state in 1845.

The city of Houston, Texas was founded in 1836, near the banks of the Buffalo Bayou. Named after Sam Houston, the city was incorporated in 1837, and has grown to be the largest city in Texas, and fourth largest in the United States. The city saw many bursts in population growth due to the early port and railroad system, as well as the discovery of oil in 1901.

The city of Dallas was founded near the Trinity River in 1841, and was incorporated as a city in 1856. It has grown to become the third largest city in Texas, and the eighth largest in the country

This 1873 land grant map advertises: "14,000,000 acres of land in Texas, and 15,000,000 in New Mexico, Arizona, and California, for sale to actual settlers, on long time. For full information, maps, etc., apply to Land Commissioner, Texas and Pacific Railway Co., Marshall, Texas."

This map was published in 1873 by G.W. & C.B. Colton & Co. It shows relief, drainage, cities, towns, counties, railroads, and the land grant.
