Historic Map - Pasadena, CA - 1903

Bird's eye view of Pasadena and vicinity. Prepared for Wm. R. Staats Co.

Pasadena was designated in the 1870's as a healthy get-a-way for those who suffered from a number of ailments, including asthma.

Pasadena prospered greatly in the 1880's when it gained a stop along the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad. Many luxurious hotels and resorts where located in Pasadena during that time.

In 1903 the first of the elaborate hotels, the Raymond, was rebuilt after being destroyed by a devastating fire in 1895.

Pasadena was incorporated as a city in 1886. This map published in 1903 for the Wm. R. Staats Co. shows labeled streets, buildings, and railroad lines. Mt. Markham, Mt. Lowe, Mt. Harvard, Mt. San Antonio and Wilson’s Peak are shown in the distance. This map provides a look back at the early beginnings of the city. Reverse side is visible on this print.
