Reproduction panoramic map
of the World's Fair, held in 1904 in St. Louis, MO, drawn by C. Graham
in 1903. The Fair celebrating the centennial of the Louisiana Purchase
of 1803, was delayed from its planned 1903 opening to allow for a more
full scale participation by states and foreign countries. The
traditional annual Saint Louis Exposition to honor agriculture, trade
and scientific exploration was not held in 1904 because of the World's
Fair. The Fair's 1,200 acre site, designed by George Kessler, was
located at the present-day grounds of Forest Park and the campus of
Washington University. The nation's largest fair to date, the Fair also
hosted the 1904 Summer Olympic Games. It was the first time the Olympics
were held in the United States. The games were originally awarded to
Chicago, but as St. Louis threatened to hold their own rival
international competition, the Olympics were moved there. Dr. Pepper and
Puffed Wheat cereal were first introduced to a national audience at the
fair.
The map features lively scenes of carriage and pedestrian
traffic at the World's Fair.

All reproduction prints are
printed as "museum quality", using advanced ink formulas and durable
museum quality paper. The reproduction prints reflect the state of
repair of the original conserved document. Stains and imperfections
reflected in the original map at the time it was collected for
conservation are left un-retouched, as they reflect the character and
charm of the vintage original. Some major imperfections, such as dark
fold lines have been removed when possible. Maps are printed as ordered
and are not returnable unless received damaged. |
