United States Historical Maps
The history of the United States has been well documented through maps since the first appearance of America (labeled Terra Incgognita) in Martin Waldseemuller’s Strasbourg edition of the Ptolemy Atlas in 1513. Our extensive collection of historical maps includes maps that illustrate the earliest explorations, all the way up to the formations of states and regions as well as maps that depict battles fought during the American Revolution and the Civil War, and ever popular railroad maps of the United States.

The United States historical map collection extends from the colonial era of the 1600s through the early 1900s. Early maps show the original thirteen colonies and unexplored territories, while later maps document westward expansion, railroad routes, and the formation of new states and territories.
Yes. The collection includes Civil War-era maps that show Union and Confederate states, military campaigns, battle locations, and strategic geography. These maps are among the most detailed in the collection and are popular with Civil War historians, reenactors, and educators.
Yes. Viewing maps from different decades reveals how US boundaries evolved, from the original colonial charters to territorial acquisitions like the Louisiana Purchase, the Oregon Territory, and the Mexican Cession. Comparing maps from different eras is a powerful way to visualize American territorial growth.
Yes. All US historical map reproductions are printed on archival-quality paper designed for framing. The vintage color palettes, period typography, and hand-drawn cartographic details make them attractive display pieces for homes, offices, and schools.
Yes. Several maps in the collection document the expansion of the American railroad network, including transcontinental routes. Railroad maps from the mid-to-late 1800s show the lines that connected the continent and transformed American commerce, settlement, and travel.
Historical US maps are faithful reproductions of actual antique maps from specific time periods. Vintage-style wall maps are modern maps designed with a retro aesthetic. Historical maps contain the geographic data and artistic style of their original era, including period-accurate boundaries and place names.
Historical US maps are used extensively in classrooms for American history, geography, and social studies instruction. They serve as primary-source documents that bring textbook content to life. Schools and districts can use purchase orders to order at net 30 terms.
Many historical US maps from the colonial and early national periods include Native American territorial designations, tribal names, and indigenous place names as recorded by the original cartographers. These details provide valuable historical context about the pre-settlement geography of North America.
Reproductions are created from high-resolution scans of original archival maps and printed using archival-grade inks on acid-free paper. The process preserves the fine detail, color tonality, and character of the originals while producing a durable print suitable for decades of display.
Standard historical US map reproductions are available in sizes up to approximately 48 inches wide. For wall-size coverage, Historical Vintage and Antique Wallpaper Murals offer full-wall US historical imagery in custom dimensions.
