This bird’s-eye view print of Cedar Rapids, Iowa was drawn by Albert Ruger and published by Chicago Lithographing Co. in 1868. Cedar Rapids is shown here just after being linked by the Chicago & North-Western Railroad. This valuable railway enabled the town, along the Cedar River, to prosper as a mill and meat packing center.

The community on the west side of the river, known as Kingston, became part of Cedar Rapids in 1870.

The map from 1868 includes Cedar Rapids and Kingston streets, buildings, bridges and railroad routes. There are featured inset illustrations of the 1st Ward School and 2nd Ward School.
