Reproduction map of
Kokomo, Indiana, published 1868. According to the Howard County Atlas of
1877, the town "derived its name from an old Indian Chief". The name
Kokomo may have been taken from the local Miami tribe's Ma-Ko-Ko-Mo, a
legendary leader that the Miami tribe greatly revered.
The first
American trading post was established in Howard County by David Foster,
who donated 40 acres of his land to be used to create a county seat in
Kokomo. The city was incorporated in 1865, just three years before this
map was published.
Detailed illustrations of the Court House and
the Public School appear on the lower margin of the map.

All reproduction prints are
printed as "museum quality", using advanced ink formulas and durable
museum quality paper. The reproduction prints reflect the state of
repair of the original conserved document. Stains and imperfections
reflected in the original map at the time it was collected for
conservation are left un-retouched, as they reflect the character and
charm of the vintage original. Some major imperfections, such as dark
fold lines have been removed when possible. Maps are printed as ordered
and are not returnable unless received damaged. |
