This panoramic print of Buena Vista, Colorado was drawn by J. J. Stoner and published by Beck & Pauli Lith. Co. in 1882. Buena Vista was founded along Cottonwood Creek in the 1870's when the narrow-gauge Denver & Rio Grande Railroad established a junction at that point along its route toward Leadville.

Buena Vista served as a supply center for miners throughout the region in its early years.

Buena Vista is the county seat of Chaffee County and is located in the upper Arkansas River Valley. The community maintains at an elevation that is 7,500 feet above sea level, and had a population of 2,500 in 1882.
