Description

View of Evans City, Butler County, P.A., 1900 / drawn & published by T. M. Fowler & James B. Moyer.

This panoramic print of Evans City, Pennsylvania was drawn by Thaddeus Mortimer Fowler and published by T. M. Fowler & James B. Moyer in 1900. Evans City was incorporated as a borough along Breakneck Creek in 1882. The lumber community was served by the Philadelphia & Western Railroad. The towns railroad station on Pittsburg Street is shown as it was originally, spanning the creek using iron beam supports. In 1900, Evans City was prospering with the Pennsylvania oil and gas boom. In 1882, a well drilled at the nearby Webber farm was found to yield 200 barrels per day, and oil wells began to spring up throughout the region.

The map from 1900 shows labeled streets, buildings, bridges, oil wells and railroad route.
