View of Owatonna, Steele County, M.N., 1870 / drawn & published by A. Ruger.

This bird’s-eye view print of Owatonna, Minnesota was drawn by Albert Ruger and published by Ruger and Stoner, Merchants Lithographing Co. in 1870. Owatonna was established near the Straight River in the 1850's and designated the county seat of Steele County when Minnesota was still a territory.

Owatonna was served by the Milwaukee & St. Paul and Winona & St. Paul Railroads.

Civil War hero Mark H. Dunnell, who worked in the State Legislature, erected an ornate mansion in 1868. It can be seen at its original location on Main Street towards the right of this map. It was removed to Austin Street in 1969.

The map, looking north east, includes labeled streets, buildings, bridges and railroad routes. There are inset illustrations of S. Mills & Co. Banking House and the Public School.
