This panoramic print of St. Paul, Minnesota was drawn and published by August Hogeboeck in 1873. In 1858, Minnesota was made the thirty-second state, with St. Paul as its capital. St. Paul grew quickly from that point with increased farming and manufacturing opportunities, and improved railroad facilities.

St. Paul’s Opera House was added in 1866. The three-story Custom House building was completed in 1872. A financial panic in 1873 caused much consternation for local business people, but St. Paul escaped the crisis. Twenty million bushels of wheat were then being marketed annually through St. Paul.

The image includes buildings, streets, railroad route and bridge. The steamer “Minnesota” is featured in the foreground.
