Description
View of Cambridge Springs, Crawford County, P.A., 1895 / drawn & published by T. M. Fowler & James B. Moyer.
This reproduction panoramic view of Cambridge Springs (Cambridgeboro), Pennsylvania was drawn by Thaddeus Mortimer Fowler and published by T. M. Fowler & James B. Moyer in 1895. The community of Cambridge Springs along the banks of French Creek was a quiet farming community known for its cheese. The railroad reached Cambridge around 1860 and the town was incorporated as Cambridgeboro in 1866. The community altered its name to Cambridge Springs in the late 1800's when healthful mineral springs were discovered throughout the region. Several fancy hotels emerged in this era to accommodate the many visitors who came to enjoy the area’s serene atmosphere and beneficial waters.
The map from 1895 includes labeled streets, buildings, bridges, mineral springs and railroad lines.
