This bird’s-eye view print of Albion, Michigan was drawn and published by Albert Ruger, Chicago Lith. around 1868. Albion was settled in the 1830's at a fork of the Kalamazoo River.

An agricultural region in its early years, Albion became an educational destination in the 1840's when Albion College located here on 60 acres of donated land. The land was provided by Jesse Crowell, who had formed an Albion land development company some years earlier.

The Kalamazoo River provided water-power to a number of mills and manufactories that were located along it in the mid-1800's. The Michigan Central Railroad began serving Albion in 1852. The railroad enhanced the town’s industrial interests and made Albion a major Michigan agricultural trade center.

The illustration includes labeled roads, buildings, waterways and railroad route.
