Reproduction panorama map of Hunter, New York, drawn and published by Lucien R. Burleigh in 1890. Fine wood products were made in factories in Hunter near the Schoharie River in Greene County. When the railroads arrived the community's interests shifted to tourism. The area in the Catskill Mountains, became a winter resort and summer vacation town. Many mountain peaks, including the highest in the county, Hunter Mountain, provided spectacular viewing and winter skiing.
